I hadn't seen a Scarlet Macaw. We spotted these whilst heading back to the airport.
The Driver pulled over, and for about 3 minutes I managed to get these photos
Scarlet Macaws squabbling in the rain
And them it calmed down. We made the flight on time, but the delay was worth it.
We also saw a very rare Quetzal, in the worng place at wrong time of year.
This Quetzal was in the Cloud Forest of Monteverde in August. Very rare sighting.
A white faced capuccin monkey (I think) picking a flower
A very cute Coati cub. At dusk they settle into the trees around the pool at the Montevere Hotel.
Beautiful hummingbird, they are amazing
This hummingbird was resting on a cable near our lodge, Pachira Lodge at Tortuguero, 6 am.
Streak-headed Woodcreeper, in La Fortuna, near Arenal Volcano
A little critter on a night walk
Roseate Spoonbill, Tortuguero (between downpours!)
This is bat sleeping under a leaf in Manuel Antonio
Very Elegant Aninga bird posing for the paparazzi
I love the movement and intent of this little squirrel monkey, in Manuel Antonio
Now this weird thing, is a Boat-billed Heron. It was glowering down at us as we passed by on a slow raft on a river.
Beautiful eye make up on this Aninga, Tortuguero
A Green Pit Viper, we did a guided night walk in Monteverde Cloud Forest, saw about 4 of these, very still, waiting for a bat or something to fly too close
Apparently there are only a few hundred Quetzal in Costa Rica.
Rufous Tailed Hummingbird
Yellow throated Toucan, shortly before being chased away by a tiny little angry thing
There you go! Toucan chased off, (possibly by a Grey headed Tanager or a Kingbird or Yellow Tryannulet) as it attacks their eggs and young. At the Hotel at Manuel Antonio
